NYAPLAP 9 will focus on AI’s role in law school admissions and legal training

NYAPLAP’s ninth annual conference will take place on Friday, February 12 at Fordham Law School, 150 West 62nd St. in Manhattan. Given the increasing importance of AI, prelaw advisors want to know whether they should encourage their advisees to use AI in crafting their personal statements and other application materials. Recommendation writers likely have similar questions–and prelaw advisors (and professors) write plenty of these. Can law school admissions officials identify the use of AI, and how does this affect their admissions decisions?

Given the increasing use of AI in the legal profession, how do law schools prepare their students to use AI in their work? Should undergraduates master AI to improve their law school grades–as well as their job prospects? We hope to hear from law school officials and professors about what they should know about AI going in–and what they will learn while in law school

The path to law school is long and many prospective law students find their mental health suffers. How can prelaw advisors help students navigate the setbacks that come from a half-decade (or more) of preparation for law school?

Finally, we hope to hear from the Law School Admissions Council about how applications for 2027 are going and how LSAC is trying to improve the admissions process. The panels are still in the planning stage, but we hope this will be the best NYAPLAP conference ever–and the price of $30 remains what it was for NYAPLAP 1. Breakfast and lunch are included thanks to the generosity of Fordham Law School.
